How to Find Books You Will Actually Love

There are too many books. How do you find the ones for you?

Follow your obsession. If you loved a book, read everything by that author. Then read the books that author loves. Authors mention their influences. Follow the chain.

Use the library. Not just for borrowing. Browse the shelves. Pick up books that look interesting. Read the first page. If it grabs you, take it home.

Ignore bestseller lists. They are marketing, not quality. The most popular books are not always the best books.

Ask people who read. Not algorithms. Friends, booksellers, librarians. People who know you can recommend better than any algorithm.

Try genres you normally avoid. A person who only reads literary fiction might love a thriller. A person who only reads fantasy might love a memoir. You do not know until you try.

The best book is the one you cannot put down. Find that one.
